Born in the Okavango. Created to Share Botswana.

Baxanekhwe Safaris is a locally owned mobile safari company based in Maun, the gateway to Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

The company was founded by professional safari guide Teko Mbwe Ketlogetswe and his wife, Tshwarry Ketlogetswe. Together, they bring decades of guiding, hospitality and tourism experience to every journey.

Our safaris are grounded in local knowledge, personal service and a deep connection to Botswana’s wilderness.

Our Story

Baxanekhwe Safaris was created from a shared love of Botswana and a desire to introduce travellers to the country through the eyes of people who call it home.

After registering the company in 2013, we acquired our tourism licence in 2016 and began operating safaris in 2017.

Our mobile-tented journeys now take guests through some of Botswana’s most remarkable wilderness areas, including the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai, Savuti, Chobe National Park, Nxai Pan, Makgadikgadi Pans and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.

We believe that a safari should be more than a series of wildlife sightings. It should help you understand the land, notice the smaller details and develop a lasting connection with the places you visit.

Meet Teko Mbwe Ketlogetswe

A Lifetime Shaped by the Delta

Teko was born in 1960 in Tsabaoro, a small village deep in the Okavango Delta.

Growing up in the Delta, fishing and hunting were part of everyday survival. From an early age, Teko learned how to identify animal tracks, interpret wildlife behaviour and navigate the changing wilderness.

He became a professional safari guide in 1986 and went on to work with respected safari companies across Botswana. During more than three decades of guiding, he has introduced travellers from different parts of the world to Botswana’s wildlife and landscapes.

His experience has also allowed him to share knowledge with younger guides in the region.

For Teko, guiding is more than a profession. It is a natural extension of the life he has lived and the knowledge passed down through generations.

Meet Tshwarry Ketlogetswe

Tshwarry brings her own tourism and hospitality experience to Baxanekhwe Safaris.

Before establishing the company with Teko, she worked with different safari companies and lodges. Her understanding of guest care and safari operations helps ensure that each journey is welcoming, comfortable and well organised.

Together, Teko and Tshwarry have built a safari company that combines wilderness knowledge with warm Botswana hospitality.

What Does Baxanekhwe Mean?

The name Baxanekhwe is connected to one of the Indigenous communities of the Okavango Delta and can be understood as meaning “river bushman.”

It represents our connection to the river, the wilderness and the people whose lives have been shaped by the Delta.

Our logo features the sitatunga, locally known as the naako. This rare, wetland-adapted antelope lives in the deeper channels and reed beds of the Okavango Delta.

Both our name and our logo reflect where we come from and the environment that continues to shape our story.
